Just a very quick post I'm not long home to Dromore from the Down and Dromore Youth Council Confirmation weekend in Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh. As usual, we were joined by friends from YKEA - pronounced why-kee-aa - the Youth of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh.
With about 150 people on the weekend, a great time was had by all. Adrian Dorrian was the speaker, Dave Lowry led the praise band, and we had a big team of staff and facilitators.
I got a bit more sleep than normal this weekend - was in bed shortly after midnight both nights as I was tired. The bad thing is that I was able to have a full conversation with one of the guys who came into the room a couple of hours later!!! I don't remember any of it!
So it's a quick stop off at Dromore before I head on down to Dublin again for another busy week. Three essays and the 10,000 dissertation to get done in the next fortnight or so - to enable me to enjoy my holidays!

The Ball
There we are now... Not long home from the DDYC Ball, and felt I had to type something about it - to keep my fans happy. By fans, I mean those who think that what I write is utter nonsense, yet keep coming back to see what I've talked about next. You know who you are!!!
The Ball was really good tonight - it was held in the Cultra Manor, in the grounds of the Folk and Transport Museum. On arrival, we stood around outside for a while, watching the style arriving and talking to folks, before moving inside for the meal. Four courses later, and we were stuffed! However, the food wasn't the major excitement of the evening.
This year's event was shared with Knock Presbyterian Youth, who brought along some extra guests, namely the NI Fire and Rescue Service (Formerly known as the Fire Brigade)... The centre decoration on the tables was a mirror, with tea lights on it, and some of the fellas thought it would be fun to see how near they could hold their napkin to the flame. Yes, a minor fire started at their table. But it was quickly dealt with, by throwing their jug of water over the flames!
After the fire was put out, all was quiet (after the cheering had ceased), but it wasn't the end of the troubles - the fire alarm started, and went on for ages. It being an automatic system, the call went through to the Fire Station, and behold, the fire engine arrived! Eventually the alarm was turned off, and we could continue on with the meal... but for ages after, I could still hear the beeping of the alarm in my head!
The evening continued with some 'LOUD MUSIC' and dancing in a tiny room, but we stayed in the front hall and chatted, before coming away on home.
All this talk of the ball leads in to a question about Cinderella... Why is Cinderella no good at football? Well, because she has a pumpkin for a coach, and she keeps running away from the ball!

You shall go to the ball
Yes, the DDYC Summer Ball has arrived again, and the time for dining and dancing is here. In just three and a bit hours, the Ball will commence, and I can't wait! Even though it has been going on for quite a few years now, this will be my first time at it, due to me usually being in Newtownstewart when it was on. So watch this space later on for the report on the Ball!

January Day
So today was the appropriately-named January Day. Appropriate, because it is a day in January! Hehe! Anyways... what it is really about is that it is a training day for young people and their leaders in the diocese of Down and Dromore.
Today's event was held in Holywood, and although there didn't seem to be as many people at it as last year (which was in the 'country' at Moira). There were various seminars in the afternoon, looking at Youthwork resources, prayer, Bible study, up-front skills, and finding faith in films. After a break for dinner, we then moved to the parish church for a meeting, with worship and a speaker. The speaker was Neil Brittain, one of UTV's sports presenters. He was looking at the idea of Christians being a 'city on a hill' (Matthew 5:14).
There was a disco starting, but the Dromore ones headed back home as we were a bit tired, and not really into the disco! but it was good to be able to see people again that I hadn't seen in ages... especially brother Mark Henry, the Youth Pastor in Movilla C of I/Methodist congregation - who was also knocking about Queens Politics department when I was there!
